    Porth island sunset

Despite reasonable weather for the most part, this was the only sunset during our family holiday in Cornwall.

Living by the coast, I'm always on the lookout for static sea structures for long exposure shots. I'm bored with groynes and sewage pipes, so this is a location I'll have to return to.

A beautiful location that has been photographed many times, the weather wasn't playing ball, so I tried to go for something a little different. I like the simplicity of the shot, and I deliberately removed all distractions from the scene.

  • Porthchapel beach

    Porthchapel beach

We spent a nice week in Cornwall, but it was a shame that it was mostly overcast, so I decided to remove the sky from this image. I experimented with the shutter speed in an attempt to convey movement in the water, without smoothing it out too much.

The fog was just starting to lift for this long exposure shot taken on Worthing seafront.

I actually had to reduce the colour saturation, otherwise people would think this shot was over processed, but it was just an amazing sunset.

Portheras cove is a beautiful beach, but it's not the easiest to get to. The sea mist descended just as we arrived, but at least it made for a more interesting photo.

  • Porth island

    Porth island

Porth Island just outside Newquay, once the site of an Iron age settlement. There was no barrier to the sheer drop at the cliff edge, so I had to watch my step while fiddling with filters.

  • Climbing down on the rocks

    Climbing down on the rocks

I tried my best to get out of the way of another photographer perched behind me with a wideangle lens, so restricted as I was, I'm quite pleased with the composition. I wanted the rocks to lead the eye in, and to get some separation from the sea stack, I'm not sure I've achieved that, but I think it's turned out ok.

  • Kimmeridge

    Kimmeridge

I headed down to Dorset in a rare opportunity to get out with the camera this year. The weather was pretty grim, so I tried for a minimalistic shot once the fossil hunters and day trippers had disappeared.
